Time to Fall
It’s almost time to fall. I love this phrase because it could mean so many different things. Falling in love or falling
down, happy and scary moments. But the fall I’m alluding to is the start of autumn.
As the years go by I appreciate autumn more. The brightly colored leaves and holiday atmosphere are a welcome change, though I can’t say I absolutely love the weather patterns the cooler air brings. Nevertheless, there are reasons I look forward to chillier days, and most are fashion oriented.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always thought of summer and winter as the two major seasons, both relatively steady, with spring and autumn being the transitional and more minor seasons filled with changes. Just as the sun disappears behind grey clouds and the trees’ limbs become bare, I swap almost my entire wardrobe, digging in the back of my closet and going through boxes to pull out the heavier coats and sweaters. I start wearing my favorite little black booties and pea coats again, and I have a need for the various scarves I own. And I finally get to change my purse for the season.
Yes, I follow these basic fashion guidelines but not because I’m afraid of breaking a rule. I look forward to these moments to reinvent myself with so much enthusiasm I couldn’t possibly ignore the chance. As much as I love routine, I jump at the chance to mix things up every so often and create a fresh start. It’s the same reason I impulsively cut my hair off, drive to the coast for an afternoon or decide to commit to a major project on a whim.
So get yourself ready for the fall! Change your hair, change your clothes, give yourself something to look forward to and enjoy the shifting world around you.
