The Power of The Salon Chair
There's something about going to a hair salon. I for one thoroughly enjoy the anticipation. For weeks, I look forward to the trip, knowing I'll get a wonderful cup of coffee with lots of cream and sugar when I arrive, and also knowing I'll get a fabulous hair refresh. It's not necessarily about doing something drastic, like taking inches off or going from bright blonde to auburn. It's about getting polished. It's also about the neck massage my hairdresser does every time she washes my hair.
My appointments always take a couple hours, thanks to the tweaks in color I always get. But this is part of the fun. As my hair transforms, I go through style magazines and catch up on what I've missed, looking at outrageous fashion and beautiful gowns. I look at enticing photos of gorgeous food, reading the recipes and wondering if I could pull it off.
It's my little bit of relaxing do-nothing time, where I can just kick back for a while and not worry about that frustrating part of that song, all the stuff I have to plan, etc. Hair appointments are literally a break from the world. Sitting in that chair somehow transports you to a place where, when you leave it, you'll be a different (and hopefully, better) you. I love that.
So the next time you go get your hair cut/styled/colored, even if it's just for fifteen minutes, I encourage you to think of that chair as a little transporter, a little magical machine that wants to give you a restart. I also encourage you to go out and do something fun and exciting right after you leave that chair, because it's just so much fun to be out on the town with a brand new head of hair.
